Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State commissioned four newly constructed and reconstructed roads in Abakpa Nike, Enugu metropolis, on Monday.

The commissioned roads include the Mike Ejeagha Crescent, where the renowned music legend resides, and the adjoining Obinagu Road, which has been renamed in Ejeagha’s honor. The other two roads are Texaco Bus Stop-Ifo Road and Nkpor Street.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mbah paid a visit to Ejeagha’s residence and announced that the government would henceforth take full responsibility for the music icon’s upkeep, describing him as a “living legend.”

Mbah emphasized the significance of Ejeagha’s contributions to Enugu’s cultural heritage, stating, “When we talked about Enugu as being the center of art and culture, this is a man who brought Enugu to that epicenter.”

The commissioned roads are part of the Mbah administration’s pledge to pave all urban roads in Enugu State. Last year, the government awarded contracts for 71 urban roads and 10 rural roads, which have since been completed. The four roads commissioned on Monday were additional emergency projects identified in January.

Governor Mbah assured residents that this is just the beginning of a new era for road infrastructure in Enugu State. He revealed that contracts have been awarded for the construction of 141 new roads and 20 rural roads, and the dualisation of Penocks junction to Opi-Nsukka is set to commence soon.

The commissioned roads were constructed with durability and convenience in mind, using high-quality materials such as reinforced concrete drainage and culverts. Ejeagha’s family expressed their gratitude to the governor, noting that while previous governments made unfulfilled promises, Mbah delivered without making any promises.

Residents of Abakpa Nike and Enugu State commended the governor for the infrastructure development, stating that the new roads will positively impact their businesses and lives. The event concluded with Governor Mbah joining in the “Gwo gwo gwo ngwo” dance, a popular step associated with Ejeagha’s music, much to the delight of the residents in attendance.
