The governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has reportedly tested negative three weeks after testing positive for COVID-19.

While information of his testing negative was sketchy at the time of filing the report, the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu in a two-paragraph press release confirmed that his boss tested negative on Friday.

“To the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, 2nd July, 2020, returned negative result on Friday, 3rd July, 2020.

“Governor Ikpeazu is therefore deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organization (WHO).”

A video posted by a member of the Ikpeazu kitchen cabinet; Erondu Uchenna Erondu jnr which trended on Friday showed Ikpeazu in his Abuja residence playing table tennis with a family doctor.

The video was the first time the people of the state were having a glimpse of the Abia State Governor since he reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 on June 8.

Our reporter gathered from sources within the government circles that the video which trended last week was targeted at replying some critics of the present administration in the state who had claimed that the governor was dead.

Investigation has it that the state of the governor’s health has been a source of concern for his supporters and Abians in general since he tested positive for COVID-19.

Though the governor was said to have formally handed over to his deputy, Rt. Hon. Udo Okochukwu, sources within the Government House told our reporter that governance has been ground to a halt as there are limits to the powers of the deputy governor.
