Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revoked illegal land entitlements at the Tropicana layout, reinstating the area’s original master plan and warning against unauthorized acquisition or encroachment of government land.
The Governor made the declaration on Tuesday while inspecting the site earmarked for the ARISE Shopping City in Uyo, emphasizing the state’s vision to create a world-class tourism hub.
“Even though the land has not been put to use for years, there have been numerous encroachments. That is why I came here and revoked every title and activity that deviated from the original master plan,” Eno stated.
Governor Eno highlighted his administration’s commitment to developing a comprehensive tourism ecosystem by reviving the previously abandoned 5,000-seat Ibom International Convention Centre, the 200-bedroom Ibom International Hotel, and initiating the ARISE Shopping City to complete the hub.
“We are trying to create a tourism ecosystem for the State. Previous administrations laid the foundation, and we are building on it to better our State,” he said. “We are ensuring that tourism remains our hallmark, and we have all the infrastructure to become the best tourist destination in the country.”
The Governor further explained that the plan extends beyond Uyo to other parts of the state, including Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, and Oron, integrating culture, heritage, medical, agricultural, and aviation assets into a cohesive tourism master plan.
The addition of the ARISE Shopping City aims to provide a central hub for tourists, offering lodging, shopping, and recreational facilities in one location. “We need a Shopping City with international brands where tourists can enjoy leisure, vacation, and recreational comfort without having to visit multiple locations,” he said.
Governor Eno disclosed that the ARISE Shopping City is expected to be completed within 12 months, adding that the state’s quality road network and peaceful environment will attract significant tourism investment and traffic once the hospitality, recreational, and shopping infrastructure is fully operational.
“It is against this backdrop that we are building. We will not allow anyone, no matter how highly placed, to disrupt the peace and harmony of Akwa Ibom State,” he emphasized.
