The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has advised the Bayelsa State government to go to court if it feels ceding Soku oil and gas production to Rivers State is wrong.

The RMAFC said it was complying with a court decision by “attributing the Soku oil and gas” production to Rivers State.

“it is in compliance with the judgment of the federal high court delivered on Monday 16th day of December 2019 by Hon justice I.E. Ekwo in a suit no FHC/ABJ/C5/984/2019 between the Attorney-General of Rivers State – Plaintiff and National Boundary Commission – Defendant that the Commission attributed Soku Oil and gas production to Rivers state,” RMAFC stated..

As a result, the Commission advised “Bayelsa State government to properly address any grievance it has to the competent court of jurisdiction instead of misrepresenting the facts and accusing RMAFC wrongly”.

It was recently reported that the RMAFC was deducting Bayelsa’s funds in favour of Rivers. Specifically, “Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri allegedly accused the Commission of deducting the state’s revenue in favour of Rivers State following a high court ruling”.

Furthermore it was reported that Diri expressed this dissatisfaction when RMAFC members representing the Southsouth region paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenogoa.

The RMAFC dismissed the allegation insisting that what the state governor was saying “does not in any way represent the fact”.

The Commission said it is a law abiding agency of the Federal Government that respects and complies fully with all court judgment and orders.
