The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 22 new Justices to the Court of Appeal, a move aimed at strengthening the court and enhancing the delivery of justice in Nigeria.

In a statement on Friday, Soji Oye, NJC’s director of information, said the decision was reached during its 105th Meeting.

The newly recommended Justices include Hon. Justice Kwahar Polycarp Terna, Hon. Justice Ruqayat Oremei Ayoola, Hon. Justice Eleojo Eneche, Hon. Justice Asma’u Akanbi-Yusuf, Hon. Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, Hon. Justice Abdu Dogo, Hon. Justice Fadawu Umaru, Hon. Justice Ishaq Mohammed Sani, Hon. Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar, and Hon. Justice Abdulazeez M. Anka.

Other Justices recommended for appointment are Hon. Justice Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, Hon. Justice Nwoye Victoria Tochukwu, Hon. Justice Nwabunkeonye Onwosi, Hon. Justice Okorowo Donatus Uwaezuoke, Hon. Justice Ngozika Uwazurunonye Okaisabor, Hon. Justice Ntong Festus Ntong, Hon. Justice Nehizena Idemudia Afolabi, Hon. Justice Nyesom-Wike Eberechi Suzzette, Hon. Justice Lateef Babajide Lawal-Akapo, Hon. Justice Akinyemi Abiodun Azeem, Hon. Justice Oyewumi Oyejoju Oyebiola, and Hon. Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi.

The recommendation of these highly qualified and experienced legal professionals is expected to bring a wealth of expertise and integrity to the Court of Appeal. The appointment of these Justices will help to address the growing number of cases pending before the court and ensure the timely dispensation of justice.

The NJC’s recommendation is subject to the approval of the President, following which the newly appointed Justices will be sworn in to assume their responsibilities at the Court of Appeal.
