The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appointed 36 new permanent secretaries for various ministries, departments and agencies in the state, Dailynigerian reports.

According to a statement by the Head of Service, Auwal Na’iya, the new appointments were “in pursuit of consolidating the reform initiatives of the present administration towards entrenching greater efficiency and productivity”.

On May 2, Mr Ganduje had sacked all the permanent secretaries in the state civil service, directing them to hand over on or before Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

In the May 2 letter, the governor directed that they should all hand over to the most senior director in their respective ministries/organisations.

The governor, however, advised all the sacked perm secs and other substantive directors on Grade Level 16 or 17, who are interested, to apply for the position by submitting their application along with their Curriculum Vitae and notification of last promotion or appointment to the Office of the Head of Civil Service on or before Thursday 9th May, 2019 by 4PM.

The May 2 letter read: “In line with the present administration’s resolve to vigorously pursue/implement the reform initiatives embarked upon since its inception, and cognizance of the need to further ensure greater efficiency in service delivery, as well as reinvigorate the top echelon of the civil service, Kano state has relieved all permanent secretaries of their appointment with immediate effect.

“Accordingly, they are to hand over to most senior director in their respective ministries/organisations on or before Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Equally, they are to report to the head of civil service for reassignment.

“In a related vein, all substantive directors on Grade Level 16 or 17 as well as the Permanent Secretaries relieved, who are interested can apply for the position of Permanent Secretary in the state civil service and should submit their application along with their Curriculum Vitae and notification of last promotion or appointment to this office on or before Thursday 9th May, 2019 by 4PM.”
