The Office of the Honourable President of the Court of Appeal has released the latest posting of Honourable Justices, which will take effect from September 30, 2024. The posting, signed by the Honourable President, Justice M. B. Dongban-Mensem, CFR, JP, includes the distribution of Presiding Justices and Justices across the court’s divisions nationwide.
According to the posting, the Court of Appeal Headquarters will continue to be led by Justice Dongban-Mensem, while the Lagos Division will have Justice J. O. Bada as the Presiding Justice, along with eight other Justices. The Kaduna Division will be headed by Justice O. A. Otisi, with four other Justices, and the Ibadan Division will have Justice Yargata Nimpar as the Presiding Justice, supported by three Justices.
Other divisions and their respective Presiding Justices include Enugu (Justice R. M. Abdullahi), Benin (Justice B. G. Sanga), Jos (Justice M. O. Bolaji-Yusuf), Port Harcourt (Justice O. E. Williams-Dawodu), Abuja (Justice H. A. Barka), Calabar (Justice U. Onyemenam), Ilorin (Justice T. O. Awotoye), Owerri (Justice A. A. Wambai), Sokoto (Justice M. L. Shuaibu), Yola (Justice F. O. Oho), Ekiti (Justice I. O. Akeju), Akure (Justice O. F. Omoleye), Makurdi (Justice B. A. Georgewill), Asaba (Justice I. G. Mbaba), Awka (Justice O. O. Daniel-Kalio), Gombe (Justice A. A. B. Gumel), and Kano (Justice M. A. Danjuma).
The posting also includes arrangements for Justices from certain divisions to sit in other divisions for one week each month. Justices from the Ilorin Division will sit in Ibadan, those from Ekiti will sit in Akure, and Justices from Gombe will sit in Maiduguri. The modalities for these sittings will be determined by the Presiding Justices of the respective divisions.
The Court of Appeal emphasized that this posting supersedes any previously constituted Special Panels and that all Justices are expected to report to their assigned divisions by September 30, 2024.
The distribution of Presiding Justices per geopolitical zone is as follows: North-Central (3), North-East (3), North-West (4), South-East (3), South-South (4), and South-West (3), totaling 20 divisions across the country.
