*Over 91,000 Firms Facing Removal In Latest CAC Strike-Off Action
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has released the latest list of companies being removed from the companies register for failing to file annual returns.
This comes after CAC’s notice in August 2023 notifying defaulting companies.
The list is now published on CAC’s website pursuant to Section 692 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020. CAC advised that struck off companies can no longer legally operate unless they apply to the Federal High Court to restore their names.
Companies claimimg they filed updated returns but still appear on the list have 30 days from publication to contact [compliance@cac.gov.ng] CAC with evidence. The commission warned that striking off does not prevent it from enforcing liabilities against directors of affected companies.
According to findings by TheNigeriaLawyer, the list updated by CAC as of November 23rd contains 91,843 affected entities.

Most companies slated for removal appear to be older firms registered between 1976 and 1985 based on available data.
