The federal government says it will, on Thursday, meet the representatives of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates with a view to discussing recent threat by the unions over increment on electricity tariff and price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The meeting, according to the Deputy Director, Press, and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, in a Whatsapp message sent to our correspondent, will be held at the Banquet hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja at 3pm.

“The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, will be hosting a meeting with the Organised Labour.

“The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2020, and the venue is the Banquet hall, Presidential Villa, by 3pm,” Akpan’s message read.

It would be recalled that the same meeting, which held between the federal government and the unions two weeks ago, had ended in a deadlock following the government’s refusal to heed union’s demands on total reversal of the hike.

The refusal had, however, forced the unions to declare a nationwide strike and protest starting next week Monday, September 28.

Labour unions reiterated their position on Wednesday that there would be no going back on the planned protest and strike to press home their demands.

Ayuba Wabba, the NLC president, in a communique read to reporters, said the National Executive Council of the NLC comprising the chairpersons of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, endorsed the decision earlier taken by the Central Working Committee of the Congress on the strike last Wednesday.
