The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally received the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, into the party.

The APC delegation, led by the State Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, visited the governor on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

During the reception, Governor Fubara filled out the APC membership form and other party documents and was subsequently issued the party slip and membership card.

It will be recalled that Fubara recently resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the APC to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Okocha, who is widely regarded as a loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, said he was mandated by the APC National Chairman to formally receive the governor into the party.

Okocha said, “I was called by the Chairman of our great party and given the mandate to visit you and make a presentation of our membership card to you as a prelude to the official reception.

“That assignment for me is a very important one. Before I proceed, let me congratulate you on your decision to join the All Progressives Congress.

“On the day you addressed Nigerians, I listened attentively, and I was satisfied with all the reasons you gave for deciding to be part of Mr. President’s political party.”

He added that the governor would receive full support from the party structure.

“As your servant, the Chairman of the party in the state, I want to say we welcome you wholeheartedly and assure you respectfully that we will be at your beck and call.

“I am grateful that this opportunity has opened another vista for our relationship, remembering what we used to do here in Rivers State.”

Responding, Governor Fubara said aligning the state with the Federal Government was necessary for progress and development, adding that Rivers State cannot operate in isolation.

He noted that his decision would also help strengthen support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, especially given the President’s role in stabilizing the state’s politics.

He said, “I took this decision as my own way of returning the favour my own clearing of the bush to ensure that his re-election in 2027 will be easy and smooth in this state.

“Now that we are all in one party, I know we always supported him, but from different places. Now we are inside one house. The job is now easier to fulfil what we have promised the President.”

Governor Fubara assured that he would do everything necessary to strengthen the APC in Rivers State.

“Let me thank the National Executive and the State Chairman representing the National Chairman. I want to assure you that we will do everything to keep the APC as the main and active progressive party in Rivers State.

“We will not stop there. It is my duty from this moment to ensure that the party is properly taken care of. I assure you here that every need of the Exco and the party becomes my responsibility.

“We have a task ahead: to preach the message of Mr. President, to soften every stronghold in this state, and to ensure that in the end, it will be smooth sailing in Rivers State.
