Four newly elected senators have been sworn into the Senate following last Saturday’s bye-elections conducted to fill vacant seats in Ondo, Nasarawa, Enugu and Rivers states.

The lawmakers were administered the oath during plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Those sworn in are Professor Francis Faduyile of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who now represents Ondo South Senatorial District, replacing Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Also sworn in was Barrister Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza of the APC, representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District. He replaces Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died in December 2025.

Asogwa Ikeje Israel of the APC was also inaugurated to represent Enugu North Senatorial District, following the death of Senator Okey Ezea in November 2025.

The fourth senator sworn in was Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representing Rivers South East Senatorial District. He replaces Senator Barry Mpigi, who died in February 2026.

Akpabio, while presiding over the session, prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased lawmakers and congratulated the newly inaugurated senators on their election and assumption of office.

With the swearing-in, the composition of the Senate now stands at 109 members, with the APC holding 88 seats.

The ADC has nine seats, the PDP five, the NDC four, while APGA, Labour Party and Accord each have one seat.

The inauguration formally restores representation to the affected senatorial districts and allows the new lawmakers to participate fully in legislative proceedings.
