The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says four out of 27 local government areas of Borno State are still not secure to conduct the 2025/2026 continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise in their headquarters.
The LGAs are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge and Marte local government areas.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Borno, Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji, stated this during a press conference in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Friday.
“Please note that for security and factors relating to safety, four INEC LGA offices will conduct the physical (In-person) registration at locations within the Maiduguri metropolis,” he said.
Ma’aji said preparatory to the commencement of the exercise on Monday, August 18, all residents of Abadam eligible for the exercise should register at Yerwa Peace, Baga Road, Maiduguri.
He said the location center of those from Guzamala is Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate, Maiduguri; those from Kala-Balge are to participate in the exercise at Goni Kachallari Primary School, Mafa Road, Maiduguri.
He said residents eligible for the exercise from Marte are to register at Kachamari, opposite Shettiram Filling State, Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri.
Ma’aji said the exercise will be conducted in three phases that will run from: Phase 1 – 28th August – 10th December, with the register to be displayed from 15th December – 21st December.
He said phase two is 5th January – 17th April, 2026 with the register to be displayed 20th April – 26th April, 2026; and Phase 3 – 4th May – 17th August, with the register to be displayed 24th August – 30th August 2026.
“This exercise is a national call to civic duty, and we are committed to ensuring every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate,” Ma’aji said.
He also appealed for continued media partnership and public cooperation, assuring that the commission will provide regular updates throughout the process.
