The former NBA first Vice President, Ikeazor Akaraiwe has congratulated all Contestants in the ongoing NBA Elections as they finally made it to this point. In the congratulatory message dated 18th August, made available to TheNigerialawyer .(TNL) in the early hours of Sunday, the former NBA first Vice President is calling on all Contestants in the ongoing NBA Elections who will be defeated to concede defeat and accept the election result the way it is. In his words, “Congratulations to all contestants; attempted and actual, disqualified and withdrawn. It has been a long, grueling contest. Congratulations also to the Electoral Committee of the NBA, and to the outgoing AB Mahmoud administration.” According to him “The purpose of power is service, therefore, I call on all contestants to accept the result of the elections. It will be embarrassing to see NBA contestants replicating the politics of Nigeria, to challenge the results of the Bar elections in court.” He further stated that “We cannot afford it a second time, back to back. It will diminish the bar, and undermine us in the eyes of society. If we cannot conduct rancour-free elections, our claims to ensuring electoral integrity in Nigeria will be taken with a pinch of salt. It has been said that a major problem of Nigeria is lawyers. May we disprove this by our post-election conduct. Happy elections. “]]>
