Former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has returned to the courtroom to support a young girl who was allegedly raped by her class teacher. This follows Kennedy-Ohanenye’s recent dismissal from her ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu in October.

In a video shared on social media, Kennedy-Ohanenye explained her presence in court, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring justice is served. She stated, “My passion for justice remains unwavering, and I will not tolerate any form of abuse, especially against vulnerable Nigerians, including children.”

Taking to her official Twitter (X) handle, the former minister elaborated on the case, writing, “Today, I represented a heart-wrenching case involving a 5-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her class teacher. This incident strengthens my resolve to combat such heinous crimes.”

Kennedy-Ohanenye also issued a stern warning to potential perpetrators, declaring, “To those who would dare perpetrate such atrocities, let this serve as a warning. I will pursue justice relentlessly in my capacity.”

The former minister’s return to court comes after she was relieved of her duties during President Bola Tinubu’s first cabinet reshuffle in October. Kennedy-Ohanenye was among five ministers dismissed, alongside Lola Ade-John, Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Tahir Mamman, and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo.

Prior to her appointment as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development on August 21, 2023, Kennedy-Ohanenye had contested for the presidency under the All-Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections. She later stepped down in support of President Tinubu, and her ministerial role was seen as a form of compensation for her efforts.

Kennedy-Ohanenye’s appearance in court to support the alleged child rape victim underscores her ongoing dedication to fighting for justice and protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals in Nigerian society.
