A group under the aegis of Initiative against Human Rights Abuse & Torture has written the Hon. Acting Chief Judge of FCT requesting the Certified True Copies of the last proceedings of the meeting of the FCT Judicial Service Committee that approved the appointment of new Magistrates who were sworn in last December, 2020.

The Group, in a letter sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer addressed to the Acting Chief Judge in his capacity as Chairman of the FCT JSC, also wants CTC of list containing names of the said appointees. The letter was signed by its Executive Director, Maxwell Opara, Esq.

“We are members of Initiative against Human Rights Abuse & Torture (INAHURAT) operating in Nigeria with the cardinal objectives of Good Governance, Due Process, Anti-Corruption/Human Rights Advocacy

“Sir, we have privileged information that new Magistrates have been appointed and sworn-in on different occasions in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the month of December 2020

” May we humbly sir, request/apply for the CTC (Certified True Copy) of the last proceedings of meeting of the FCT Judicial Service Committee that approved the appointment as well as the CTC (Certified True Copy) of the list containing their names.” the letter reads in part

The Group said the request is pursuant to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.
