The Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, has disbursed a total of N8.5 million in financial grants to 34 law graduates from the district to support their legal education at the Nigerian Law School.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony on Tuesday in Calabar, Senator Williams said the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden associated with law school and improving the chances of success for aspiring lawyers across the district.

“Many students face serious financial challenges that can derail their dreams. This support is to ensure they focus on their studies, pass the bar finals in one sitting, and return to serve their people,” the Senator stated.

The beneficiaries, drawn from various local government areas within Cross River Central, are graduates of different universities across Nigeria. Each received a grant of N250,000, an increase from the N200,000 given to 21 beneficiaries last year.

“In view of the rising cost of living, we decided to increase the amount this year. I urge the beneficiaries to be studious and prayerful. Their success will not only benefit them but also uplift the entire community,” Williams added.

He further advised the graduates to remain connected to their roots and give back to their communities once they become legal practitioners. “If you graduate and start practising, don’t forget your people and your constituency. I believe one day, you’ll come back to help others,” he said.

In addition to the current grants, Senator Williams hinted at plans to launch a broader scholarship scheme that will support postgraduate studies, both locally and internationally.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Tasen Arthur Egbe, a law graduate from the University of Calabar, expressed gratitude and described the grant as “a miracle,” noting the financial difficulties many students face during the law school year.

“This gesture shows that we have a Senator who truly believes in empowering the youth and promoting educational advancement. We commend Senator Williams for facilitating both local and foreign scholarships for students in the senatorial district,” Egbe said.
