In a heartfelt tribute, Soseipiriye Long Williams Esq., former Governor of the Eastern Bar Forum, has mourned the passing of his trusted adviser and confidant, David Ibedeje Chikwudilim Ezeigwe, popularly known as D.O.C. Ezeigwe.

Recalling Ezeigwe’s impact on his life, Williams wrote, “He came into my life without any pomp and pageantry but with simplicity, love, attention, and brotherhood. I accepted him with open arms as I saw love on display without any prompting or favors which I lacked to dispense.”

Williams described Ezeigwe as an unassuming man, simple in thoughts, words, and actions, yet one who could “hit the point like a sledgehammer” and whose words “pierced the soul of anyone inclined to truth.”

During Williams’ tenure as Governor of the Eastern Bar Forum from 2019 to 2021, Ezeigwe served as his Special Adviser, father figure, and trusted partner. “I consulted with him on almost every issue save those that cropped up spontaneously, and which he always aligned with my position,” Williams recalled.

Ezeigwe’s dedication to the Bar was unwavering, as he “hardly absented himself from any Bar activity even in poor health.” Williams praised him for dispensing wisdom on thorny issues and bringing “succor to rancorous situations.”

In his tribute, Williams portrayed Ezeigwe as “a fair-minded, peaceful, loving, boisterous, articulate, and straightforward individual created by the Almighty and Eternal God to His glory.”

Quoting the ancient Roman poet Ennius Quintus, Williams affirmed his belief that Ezeigwe’s legacy would live on, stating, “Let no one celebrate my death with mourning for I still live as I pass to and fro the mouths of men.”

The tribute concluded with a heartfelt farewell: “Rest in Peace, DOC.”

Ezeigwe’s passing has undoubtedly left a void in the legal fraternity, but his impact and memory will continue to resonate through the lives he touched as to live in the hearts of men is never to die.
