The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has clarified that all the accident victims seen in a trending video on social media — where its personnel were alleged to have abandoned them — were treated and have since been discharged.

In a statement to journalists on the hospital premises in Abuja, the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Bioku Muftau, expressed regret that the video painted the hospital in a negative light, contrary to its longstanding reputation for quality care.

He disclosed that eight personnel, including two doctors, two nurses, and two attendants, are currently under investigation over allegations of negligence. He emphasized that anyone found culpable would be held accountable.

Dr. Muftau said:
“At least, the patient with the head injury was stable before he left. He was treated and discharged the same day.”

He noted that the investigation was ordered by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, and assured the public that its findings would be made public once concluded. He urged Nigerians to remain calm, stating that “no stone will be left unturned.”

“We are aware of the online video that negatively portrays the image of the hospital. Because of this, we immediately set up an investigative committee to review what happened on that day — June 6, 2025,” he said.

“This hospital does not take complaints from patients or relatives lightly. We have multiple platforms for submitting complaints, and every staff member present in the emergency unit that day — including nurses, attendants, and doctors — will be investigated.”

Dr. Muftau reiterated FMC Abuja’s zero-tolerance policy for negligence, highlighting that the hospital regularly conducts training for staff on organizational culture and patient care. “In fact, within the next two weeks, newly recruited staff will undergo training,” he added.

He also reaffirmed the hospital’s compliance with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s directive that no patient brought in under emergency conditions should be turned away.

“Our emergency unit always prepares for critical cases, even if beds are full. We decongest regularly to ensure we don’t reject patients. In cases of mass casualty, we make necessary adaptations to accommodate everyone,” he said.

Dr. Muftau further stated that the hospital is now enrolled in the National Emergency Medical and Ambulance System (NEMAS), although it has always admitted patients, including unconscious or indigent individuals, regardless of their ability to pay or identification status.
