Flight operations have been disrupted at the Dubai International Airport after a downpour caused runways to be flooded.
As at Saturday night, 22 flights departing from and arriving at the Dubai airport were cancelled.
However, flights operated from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja and Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos were delayed.
In a statement released on its website, the operators of the airport said it is working to clear the backlog created and resume full operations.
“Dubai Airports confirms that operations at Dubai International (DXB) continue to be hampered by the knock-on effects of waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall earlier today which has resulted in a number of flight delays, cancellations and diversions,” the statement read.

“We continue to work closely with our service partners to clear the backlog, restore full operations and minimise the inconvenience to our customers. However, with additional rain expected later this evening, the disruption is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
“Accordingly, customers are advised to check directly with their airlines for more specific flight information and allow additional time to get to the airport.”
