The Federal Government has appealed to striking health workers, particularly nurses, to suspend their ongoing industrial action, assuring that all contentious issues can be resolved through negotiations.

The government also disclosed plans to meet with representatives of the nurses and doctors on Friday to address the grievances that led to the strike.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, made this known while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Prof. Pate said the government has reviewed the concerns raised by the striking nurses and taken steps to address the situation. He expressed confidence that a resolution would be reached soon through constructive engagement.

“We are engaging all stakeholders, and on Friday, we will meet with the leadership of the nurses and doctors. We are confident the issues can be resolved amicably,” the minister said.

In a related development, Prof. Pate also announced the Federal Government’s approval for the establishment of an Oncology Centre at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, as part of ongoing efforts to revamp Nigeria’s healthcare system.

He reiterated that the Bola Tinubu administration is committed to driving transformative change in the health sector, with investments in infrastructure, personnel welfare, and medical innovation.
