Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, has announced that the court will begin its annual Easter vacation on April 16.

The break, which will last until April 28, is part of the court’s yearly schedule to allow judges and staff time to observe the holiday and rest before resuming official duties.

This was contained in a statement issued by Catherine Christopher, Director of Information, Federal High Court, on Monday in Abuja.

The circular, signed by Justice Tsoho, noted that the vacation is in accordance with the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended).

The statement further stated that the court will resume sitting on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in all judicial divisions.

Christopher added that during the vacation period, the Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt judicial divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency.

“It is important to note that during the vacation, only matters relating to the enforcement of fundamental rights, arrest or release of vessels, and issues concerning dire national interest will be entertained by vacation judges,” Dr. Oby Christopher stated.

According to the statement, the following judges will serve as vacation judges:

  • Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Musa S. Liman (Abuja Judicial Division)
  • Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac I. Dipeolu (Lagos Judicial Division)
  • Justice Phoebe M. Ayua and Justice Adamu T. Mohammed (Port Harcourt Judicial Division)

The statement advised the vacation judges and heads of divisions to promptly refer to the Chief Judge any matters they believe may require his urgent attention and directives.
