Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano has threatened to jail the Spokesperson to Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature over alleged misrepresentation.

Speaking shortly after delivering his judgment on the case of Kano State Commission of Inquiry constituted by Governor Yusuf, the Judge ordered that a Certified True Copy (CTC) of his judgment be served to the Governor’s Spokesperson and any media representative in the court room to avoid misrepresentation.

Journalists, who were at the court proceedings, were hit with suspense as the Judge, threatened to jail the governor’s spokesperson.

He expressed dissatisfaction over some comments of the state government’s officials including Bature, who he said always undermine court judgment.

“I know the Governor has immunity, but I have the liberty to jail any of his aides for unguarded utterances against the decision of the court,” Justice Amobeda said.

In his ruling, Justice Amobeda issued 48-hours deadline to two Kano State High Court judges, Justice Farouk Lawan Adamu and Justice Zuwaira Yusuf to resign their appointments as Chairman of Judicial Commission of Inquiry for the Recovery of Misappropriated Public Properties and Assets, and Chairman of Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate Political Violence and Missing Persons respectively, set up by Governor Abba Yusuf to probe his predecessor, former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje’s eight years administration.

Kano has been on the spotlight of the media in Nigeria since the assumption of Governor Abba Yusuf on 29th May, 2023 as a result of running legal battle around political crisis between former governor, Ganduje and Governor Yusuf, Emirate tussle among others in the state.

Efforts to get the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, for his reaction proved abortive as he could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
