The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman, Aladi Offikwu Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, whose body was discovered unconscious with her hands tied behind her in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

The incident, which has generated widespread outrage after a disturbing video of the scene went viral on social media, has prompted swift intervention from law enforcement authorities.

In a statement on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has ordered a thorough and discreet probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding Tessy’s tragic death.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, a native of Benue State, checked into a hotel on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on Monday, June 16, 2025, accompanied by an unidentified male companion who later exited the premises alone. Hotel staff discovered her unconscious during routine rounds and alerted the police. Medical responders later confirmed that she had died.

In a message aimed at calming public anxiety, CP Adewale assured that the case is being handled with the seriousness it deserves and that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible. He also issued a safety advisory, especially to young women, urging them to be cautious when engaging with strangers and to always share their location with trusted contacts.

“Every effort is being made to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice,” the Commissioner said.

The police further called on hotel operators across the territory to strengthen their internal security procedures. “Hotel operators must enforce strict identity verification measures for all guests and ensure the presence of functional surveillance systems to aid both prevention and investigations,” Adeh added.

The FCT Police Command extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
