Activist lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has filed a suit against the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) over the centre’s failure to establish a functional centre for the detection, prevention and control of the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Cross River and Kogi states.

The fundamental human rights suit filed through an Originating Motion on Notice dated September 1, was brought pursuant to Section 33 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and Article 4 and 16 of the African Charter on Human Rights Ratification and Peoples Rights Ratification and Enforcement Act LFN 2010 and Order 11 Order X1 and X11 of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedures Rules 2009.

Falana filed the suit for himself and on behalf of the members of the Alliance on Surviving COVID -19 and beyond. The NCDC is the sole respondent in the suit.
