A Human Rights advocate, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigerian has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Elisha Abbo for assault occasioning harm and torture to a nursing mother.

The Learned Silk made this known in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, dated the 7th day of June, 2019, which was made available to the TheNigerialawyer (TNL).

The demand is brought pursuant to the clear provision of Section 2 of the Anti-Torture Act 2015, and section 265 of the Penal Code.

According to him, “Notwithstanding the Senator’s remorse, he has to be charged as soon as possible. His apology will be entertained at the stage of allocotus and not before the trial. Otherwise, official impunity will continue unabated in the society.

The letter partly reads:

“This incident sadly occurred in the presence of an armed policeman who stood, and rather than help the nursing mother, promptly arrested her after the assault and torture.

“Quiet embarrassing, the distinguished senator had admitted that he assaulted the lady because she was supporting the shop owner who had called him a drunk.

“We also request that the police officer who arrested the nursing mother should be sanctioned for naked abuse of power.

A lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial district, Senator Elisha Abbo was recently caught on a CCTV, beating a woman in a sex toy shop for appealing to him to take it easy with the way he was harassing a shop owner.
