Mr. Joseph Pessu was alleged to have been killed recently by a soldier, Sht. Illeruka Ajayi Samson, in the oil city of Warri.

The soldier was alleged to have chased the deceased’s car at the Ogbuwangue area of Warri during the lockdown declared in Delta State and shot him at point blank. It has been almost two months that the incident happened, the Nigerian Army is yet to take any step towards the prosecution of the said military personnel who was apprehended on the spot and handed over to the Nigerian Police.

To prevent the matter from being silenced, foremost human right lawyer, Chief Femi Falana,SAN leading Kunle Edun, the National Publicity Secretary of the NBA, Chief Robinson Ariyo, a human right activist based in Warri and Clement Omotoye Esq have jointly applied to the Attorney General of Delta State for fiat to prosecute the said soldier.

As at press time we were unable to get confirmation if the application for fiat had been approved.

Also, the human right activists jointly issued a pre action notice to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and Sgt. Ilekura Ajayi Samson of the intention of the family of late Mr. Joseph Pessu to commence civil proceedings against them for the unlawful death of Mr. Joseph Pessu.
