*Says His Clients Will Not Honour The Invitation

A foremost human rights lawyer Femi Falana SAN, has condemned the incessant practice of Force Headquarters inviting suspects to come to their office in Abuja.

The learned Silk disclosed this on Friday in his statement made available to THENIGERIALAWYER.

According to him, it is wrong to invite his clients to Abuja for an offense committed in Ogun state when there’s a law for community police.

He added that his clients will not honour such invitation and has written to the Inspector General of Police in this regard.

“My clients were recently invited to Abuja from Abeokuta.

“I wrote to the IGP that they would not honour the invitation due to their state of impecuniosity.

“You cannot invite my clients to Abuja for investigation when the law provides for community policing!”

“Alternatively, I asked the Police headquarters to send tickets to them.

“However, I suggested that the police in Ogun State be allowed to conduct the investigation of the complaint.  My request was adopted.”

Although he said the Nigerian Bar Association leadership ought to meet with the IGP and agree on the treatment of criminal suspects under the Police Establishment Act, 2020.
