Ezeagu Family Replies NBA, States Its Position On The Detention Of NBA Aguata Sec, Chukwu Anugo Offor

A family which described itself as the “Accredited Ezeagu Family of Umuoleoha Kindred, Akwu Autonomous Community Akokwa Town, Ideato-North LGA, of Imo State” has stated its position in respect of the detention of NBA Aguata Secretary, Chukwu Anugo Offor.

In a statement addressed to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL), the family accused the NBA Aguata Secretary, Chukwu Anugo Offor of introducing anarchy and discord in the family. They accused him and Echezona Ezeagu, Esq., of carting away all original titled documents of the deceased including but not limited to cash of $185, 000, 000 and Nigerian Naira valued at N200, 000, 000 meant for their late brother’s treatment Abroad and briefcase containing Title Deeds and Share Certificates.

Recall that the Nigerian Bar Association had reacted to the alleged unlawful detention of the Secretary of NBA Aguata branch Chukwu Anugo Offor Esq., and his employee, Echezona Ezeagu, Esq and has called on the Commissioner of Police in Charge of the Homicide Department Mr. Felix Vwamhi to release them.

“While the NBA  refrains from commenting on the merit of the substantive case, it behooves on us, the NBA and all lawyers, to ensure that the fundamental rights of every Nigerian remains sacrosant and must be respected. This, the NBA will stand on,” says Kunle Edun, the NBA National Publicity Secretary, TheNigerialawyer( TNL) earlier reported.

FAMILY POSITION AND REPLY BY THE ACCREDITED EZEAGU FAMILY OF UMUOLEOHA KINDRED, AKWU AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY AKOKWA TOWN, IDEATO-NORTH LGA, OF IMO STATE WITH REGARDS TO THE STATEMENT CREDITED TO THE NATIONAL PUBLICITY SECRETARY OF NBA, MR. KUNLE EDUN (ESQ.)

Our attention has been drawn to the unfounded allegation levelled against the Police High Command and Ezeagu family by one Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor who was trained up to university level by Ezeagu family and we proceed to put the record straight as follows:

1. That the largre Ezeagu family has been living in peace until one Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor took over the management of properties Chief Ambrose Igwemadu Ezeagu and Emmanuel Ezeagu both of the blessed memory.

2. That Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor in a bid to overrun the family and control the family’s assets, introduced anarchy and discord in the family. He instigated Late Ambrose Ezeagu against all the family members and encouraged Late Ambrose Ezeagu to go into litigation and Police case with the children.

3. That Barr. Anugo Offor was managing the Estate of Late Ambrose Ezeagu and Emmanuel Ezeagu without proper records of account and each time principal members of the family request for update of the family property’s account, the said Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor will instigate Late Ambrose Igwemadu Ezeagu to lay a criminal complaint of either attempted assassination, robbery, threat to life or kidnapping just to rope in and scare away such family member.

4. That on the 12th day of November, 2019, Chinedu Ezeagu upon reporting to the Area Commander Onitsha on how Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor and the driver of Late Chief Ambrose Ezeagu forcefully ejected him from the family property at Woliwo Layout and further confiscated his household properties. It was on this strength that the Police from Onitsha, Area Command invited the said driver and he volunteered statement and on the cause of investigation the Police recovered the said properties.

5. That Late Chief Ambrose Ezeagu died the following day at the age of 70years after drinking the tea prepared by the 5th child (Barr. Echezona Ezeagu).

6. That when the said Barr. Echezona Ezeagu noticed that his father has died, he did not raise any alarm, or inform the deceased wife (his mother) rather he called his Principal (Barr. Offor Chukwuanugo) on phone and the said Offor and Echezona carted away all original titled documents of the deceased including but not limited to cash of $185, 000, 000 and Nigerian Naira valued at N200, 000, 000 meant for our late brother’s treatment Abroad and brief case containing Title Deeds sand Share Certificates.

7. That Barr. Echezona Ezeagu, acting in concert with his Principal wrote a petition of murder and roped in the two IPOs at Area Commander Onitsha, alleging that his father died as a result of the beating he received from Messrs Chinedu Ezeagu, Alloy Ezeagu and the two Police Inspectors from Area Command Onitsha.

8. That the Police at State CID-Awka led by Inspector Maureen and Inspector Ezenta swung into action, arrested Messrs Alloy Ezeagu and Chinedu Ezeagu inside the court room of Chief Magistrate Court 4, Onitsha on trump up petition of murder.

9. That all efforts by Barr. Uju Akuneziri who is our family Lawyer to see the fake Post mortem Report proved abortive as the deceased was buried that same day at our home town in Akokwa without any Court Order.

10. That Inspector Maureen and Inspector Ezenta escorted the corpse of the deceased to our home town on the instruction of the Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Maiyaki Baba in charge of State CID, Awka and committed the body of the deceased that is in contention to mother earth without proper autopsy.

11. That it was at this stage, the entire family of Ezeagu contacted the Law Firm of A.G Ogbachalu & Associates (GOSHEN LAWLORDS SOLICITORS) who approached the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (State CID) respectively on the purported murder charge. The DCP SCID (Maiyaki Baba) informed our Team of Lawyers that Messrs Alloy Ezeagu and Chinedu Ezeagu will be charged to court for the murder of Late Chief Ambrose Ezeagu based on the Post Mortem Report from a Medical Doctor at General Hospital, Onitsha that suggested the deceased was seriously assaulted which led to his death.

12. That our Team of Lawyers petitioned the AIG Zone 9 who recalled the case file from Anambra State Police Command and the Zonal Police swung into action and re-investigated the purported murder charge. On the course of investigation, Barr. Ezecheona Ezeagu and his Principal (Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor) were also arrested and search warrant executed in the house of Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor, and five (5) saco bags containing original title documents of Ezeagu properties and the deceased Brief case hidden inside Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor’s ward rope, containing Share Certificates and Title Deeds was equally recovered.

13. That the cash of $185, 000, 000 and Nigerian Naira valued at N200, 000, 000 meant for our late brother’s treatment Abroad was not recovered and while investigation was going on at Zone 9 Umuahia, Barr. Offor Chukwuanugo connived with Barr. Echezona Ezeagu and proceeded to First Bank Plc Onitsha to withdraw all the money in the Deceased account when the family got hint of same and stopped it. It was at this point the family instructed our Team of Lawyers to petition the Inspector General of Police, who promptly acted on the family’s petition by directing the DIG Force -CID to consolidate and investigate

14. That the Police at Abuja immediately commenced investigation and discovered that the title documents and the Share Certificates were stolen at the point of death of our brother, Late Ambrose Ezeagu.

15. That the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Forensic and Team proceeded to Anambra State, obtained Statements from witnesses and invited the Medical Doctor who prepared the fake Post Mortem Report procured by Barr. Chukwuanugo Offor and Barr. Echezona Ezeagu (the two suspects) and the said Doctor disappeared and has not surfaced till dated. The body of Late Ambrose Ezeagu was exhumed and Autopsy conducted thus it was discovered that the Post mortem Report was fake because the Doctor representing the accused and the deceased family doctor saw, and confirmed that there was no sign of violence and sign of bruises as contained in the fake Post Mortem Report issued by a Doctor from General Hospital, Onitsha. The Autopsy report contradicted the fake Post mortem Report.

16. That another sample of our brother’s specimen was sent to Lagos by Team of Investigators from Force CID, Abuja to ascertain the content of the tea, the deceased drank before his death.
