The Treasurer of the Asaba branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Awele Ideal Eluaka, has tendered a letter of resignation to the chairman of the branch, Freddie Eruliede, Esq., over what she describes as certain disturbing developments in the last couple of days.

In the letter dated the 29th day of June, 2019, and sighted by TheNigerialawyer (TNL), the Treasurer has alleged that the Chairman of the branch, Freddie Eruliede, Esq., and his wife Nkem Eruliede, have been frustrating her work as Treasurer.

According to her, the Chairman always call her to loan him money from NBA purse for personal use, and on a number of occasions, she has been requested to release funds without the approval of the general house or Exco members.

She also alleged that since bringing up her concern over expenditure on the building project, her personal life has been threatened by the wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Nkem Eruliede and she doesn’t wish to treat her threat lightly because the desperation and bitterness she spewed, according to her, is alarming. She is, therefore, resigning as Treasurer to save her life, she alleged.

The letter reads:

“I sincerely wish to thank members of NBA Asaba branch for giving me the privilege to serve this branch as Treasurer for one year. Certain disturbing developments in the last couple of days have compelled me to hereby humbly tender my resignation as Treasurer of this great bar. Chief among the reasons for this decision are that:

The Chairman, Freddie Eruliede, and his wife, Nkem Eruliede have been frustrating my work as Treasurer; the Chairman always call me to loan him money for personal use from NBA purse. I once fell for his plea, an action I regretted. On a number of occasions, I have been requested to release funds without the approval of the general house or Exco members; since bringing up my concern over expenditure on the building project, my personal life has been vilified and threatened by the wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Nkem Eruliede and I don’t wish to treat her threat lightly because the desperation and bitterness she spewed is so alarming.

I have evidence of all stated above.

My service to NBA Asaba branch is not worth my life and peace of mind. I have my beautiful young children who need me to love and cater for them. I have my profession and integrity to protect and I won’t allow anyone soil it for me.  I shall before and during the next NBA Asaba branch meeting, furnish you with a comprehensive one year financial report.”

Responding to the letter of resignation, the Chairman of the branch, Freddie Eruliede, Esq., informed TheNigerialawyer (TNL), that he doesn’t have anything against the resignation, adding that, he is not responding to it. He, however, informed TNL that the elders of the branch are handling the situation.

According to him, they are one family and the issue will be resolved.

TNL also tried reaching Awele Ideal, but her line was switched off as at the time it was called.
