The former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.
Tsiga was abducted from his hometown, Tsiga, in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, on February 5, 2025, alongside nine other residents.
His release followed prolonged negotiations and the payment of an unspecified ransom by his family.
A close family member disclosed that after the ransom was delivered, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before finally contacting the family and allowing Brig-Gen Tsiga to speak.
âThe money was delivered to them, but it was only after one week, on Tuesday, March 11, that they called, and we heard his voice,â the source said.
The kidnappers had reportedly attempted to demand additional payment, but no further money was given.
A top military source confirmed Tsigaâs release, stating that he is in good health. He is currently in Zamfara State and is expected to be transported to Abuja soon.
Tsigaâs abduction highlighted the worsening security situation in the North-West region, where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly frequent.
Meanwhile, a family member, Abdullahi Tsiga, also confirmed his release to our correspondent on Wednesday night.
