Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Vice President and current special advisor to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Monday Ubani, has urged former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to surrender to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ubani stated that the EFCC’s maximum action would be to detain Bello for three days before releasing him.

In an interview with TV360, Ubani criticized Bello’s decision to evade arrest, emphasizing that it does not reflect well on his personality. He advised Bello to follow the example of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who willingly surrendered himself to answer allegations against him.

Ubani expressed concern over the EFCC’s aggressive tactics in arresting some individuals, citing instances where they had to smash doors, ceilings, and homes, as witnessed in Imo State. However, he cautioned that this is not the wisest approach when dealing with security agencies.

Encouraging Bello to comply with the law and surrender himself if the EFCC seeks him out, Ubani remarked, “The highest that can happen is one, two, or three days of detention, and they release you.” He even shared his personal experience of being detained for more than ten days, describing it as “the greatest school ever” and assuring that he didn’t die there.

Ubani’s advice comes amidst ongoing efforts by the EFCC to apprehend Yahaya Bello, who has been evading arrest in connection with undisclosed allegations.
