The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to corps employers to provide better support for corps members, including picking them up from orientation camps or reimbursing their transport fares when they are unable to do so.

The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, made the call in Bauchi on Thursday during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop organized by the scheme in the state.

Represented by Mrs Agatha Banki, Director of the Northeast Area Office 1, Bauchi, the DG stressed that providing decent accommodation for corps members or offering monetary compensation in lieu of accommodation would significantly boost their morale and enhance service delivery.

“The corps members’ welfare remains a top priority,” Nafiu stated. “When employers show responsibility by supporting their basic needs, it encourages corps members to give their best wherever they are posted.”

He noted that the annual workshop serves as a platform for the NYSC and corps employers to interact, share experiences, and brainstorm on strategies to improve the efficiency of the scheme.

“This forum is vital in enhancing collaboration and ensuring that the objectives of the NYSC are fully realized,” he added.
