The former Law Firm of Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), SimmonCooper Partners, has reacted to the claim by one Jackson Ude that the current Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olukoyede Olanipekun, once worked with them.

Ude had in his twitter account claimed that Osinbajo influenced the employment of Olanipekun to EFCC as Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu’ s Chief of Staff, from where he was promoted as secretary of the commission.

“Olukoyede Olanipekun, the EFCC Secretary, worked as a Lawyer in Osinbajo’s chambers in Lagos. Once Osinbajo became VP, he moved him to the EFCC as Ibrahim Magu’s Chief of Staff and then later made Secretary of EFCC. And then the racket started!” the tweet reads

However, the Managing Partner of the firm, Dapo Akinosun, in a statement refuted the claim.

Akinosun describes Ude as “an attention seeker”, and urged the public to ignore him.

He said Olukoyede Olanipekun never worked in the firm nor even pay the Vice-President or any other counsel in the firm a visit.

“I have been with SimmonsCooper Partners from the day it was incorporated and still remain there till date. Olukoyede Olanipekun did not, does not and has never worked in or for SimmonsCooper Partners. I will state categorically and for emphasis that Olanipekun Olukoyede has also never walked in to SimmonsCooper Partners offices not even to visit Prof Osinbajo SAN nor any counsel therein”. Akinosun said

Okukayode Olanipekun is allegedly among the top EFCC officials that were suspended in connection with the investigation of Ibrahim Magu.
