The Edo State Judiciary has established a dedicated SMS and WhatsApp channel for members of the public to send complaints and suggestions directly to the Chief Judge of the state.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the state judiciary listed 10 scenarios where people can send text messages to the Honorable Chief Judge on 09061865678.

These include situations such as courts not sitting, staff absenteeism, illegal fees, delays in services, touting in court premises among others.

The direct messaging channel to the Chief Judge has been set up “for a better Edo State Judiciary” by promoting accountability and transparency.

With court administrative issues now just an SMS or WhatsApp away from the oversight of the Chief Judge, the public notice aims to tackle the perennial problems of delays, absenteeism and extortion which undermine access to timely justice.

The state Chief Judge Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, in keeping with current Chief Justice of Nigeria Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola’s reforms, has provided a direct feedback mechanism for court users to hold judicial staff and officials accountable.

Legal analysts describe the move as revolutionary and a potential game changer in cleaning up the judicial system if properly implemented by authorities.
