The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned the recent political comments made by an individual identified as Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, who was seen in a video circulating on social media platforms wearing a Spy Police uniform.

The video, which addressed the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections, has prompted the NPF to clarify the individual’s status and dissociate itself from the unauthorized statements.

In an official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF explained that Dr. Agbomhere is not a regular police officer but a Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer employed by a private company. Supernumerary Police Officers are private individuals trained by the Nigeria Police for specific security functions within their place of employment. They are not on the NPF payroll and do not swear the oath of allegiance like sworn regular police officers.

While Supernumerary Police Officers have the right to belong to any political party of their choice and exercise their freedom of expression, the NPF frowns upon the wearing of official SPY uniforms while engaging in political activities. As a result, the individual involved has been arrested for further investigations.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of Dr. Agbomhere to determine the extent of his actions and any potential violations of the NPF’s code of conduct. The IGP emphasized that the NPF remains committed to maintaining its professionalism, neutrality, and adherence to the rule of law.

ACP Adejobi reiterated that the political comments made by the individual do not reflect the views of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged the public to disregard any such statements and trust in the NPF’s unwavering dedication to serving the nation impartially.

Dr. Blessing Agbomhere was a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Edo state primaries.
