*Expresses Confidence in Judiciary’s Role at Presidential Election Petition Tribunal

Olumide Akpata, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and a prominent governorship aspirant for the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election, has embarked on a significant shift in his career towards active politics. Akpata, previously known for his role as Senior Partner at Templars, a distinguished law firm, has formally relinquished his position.

In an official communication dated August 24, 2023, Templars announced Akpata’s decision to step aside from his role within the firm. This move stems from his keen interest in active political involvement and aligns with the firm’s governance protocols. Effective August 31, 2023, Akpata will fully immerse himself in his political endeavors, centered on contributing to the nation’s growth through his political engagement.

Akpata’s recent foray into the political realm was highlighted by his association with the Labour Party in Edo State. His aspiration to contest the forthcoming gubernatorial election marks a significant transformation in his career trajectory.

While acknowledging Akpata’s contributions to the firm’s advancement, Templars assured its clientele of uninterrupted service. A team of over 100 lawyers, including twenty partners from diverse practice areas, will seamlessly cater to clients across the firm’s offices in Nigeria and Ghana.

In a related development, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata conveyed his optimistic outlook regarding the role of the judiciary in the upcoming presidential election petition tribunal. During a rally held in Benin, he expressed the party’s trust in the judiciary’s ability to uphold justice within the electoral process.

Addressing local government candidates and citizens, Akpata encouraged them to exercise their voting rights without apprehension. Firm in his belief in the local government election’s credibility, he underscored the significance of maintaining a transparent and equitable democratic process.

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, echoed Akpata’s sentiments, urging members to replicate their fervor from the presidential election during the imminent local government elections. While acknowledging Governor Godwin Obaseki’s decision to conduct the local government elections, he emphasized the necessity for a process that is free, fair, and credible, ensuring the authentic representation of the people’s voices.
