DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTS MAY BE DETAINED
In Nigeria, everyone is entitled to personal liberty.
However, a person may be deprived of this right if:
(a) he is suffering from a contagious disease.
(b) he is suffering from insanity.
(c) he is addicted to drugs or alcohol
NB: Such detention must be for the purpose of their care or treatment.
See Section 35(e) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
