Doyen Bar Week Holds Jan 27th To Feb 2nd At Transcorp Hotel, Calabar

The Calabar branch of the Nigerian Bar Association also known as DOYEN Bar is set to hold it’s branch’s 2020 Bar Week holding from the 27th day of January, 2020 to the 2nd of February, 2020.

The event is expected to have in attendance His Excellency, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State as a special guest of honour.

The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch (The Doyen Bar) in conjunction with the Bar Week Planning Committee hereby announces the Branch’s 2020 Bar Week holding from Monday, 27th January through Sunday, 2nd February, 2020 at the Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, Cross River State and other selected venues.

The Week, which features a Public Lecture with the main theme: GOOD GOVERNANCE: UTILITIES, SOCIAL SERVICES AND THE LAW IN NIGERIA, also considers the sub-themes: Right to Light, Right to Water, Right to Shelter and Right to clean Environment. On parade to dissect the main and sub themes are erudite and tested Speakers. While Prof. Agbo J. Madaki (one time Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi) is billed to deliver the keynote address, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku (former Dean of Law, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar), Prof. Jacob A. Dada (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar), Dr. Yomi Oke (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos) and Hon. Eyo Ekpo (former Attorney-General of Cross River State) are scheduled to be Discussants.

The Public Lecture, which holds on Wednesday, 29th January, 2020 by 10.00a.m., would have His Excellency, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State, as Special Guest of Honour; Distinguished Senator Kanu G. Agabi, SAN as Chairman while Mrs. Nella Andem-Rabana, SAN is billed to act as Moderator of the session.

In the same vein, in the course of the Week, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Akon B. Ikpeme, Ag. Chief Judge of Cross River State would Chair the Bar-Bench Forum on Thursday, 28th January, 2020 while Hon. Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen, JSC (Rtd) would be the Chairman of the Law Dinner/Awards on Friday, 31st January, 2020.

DAY 1: Monday, 27th January, 2020 – City Walk by Legal Practitioners through the Calabar Carnival route from 7.00a.m.

DAY 2: Tuesday, 28th January, 2020 – Health Talk/Free medical checks for Lawyers plus Free Legal Clinic for members of the public from 9.00a.m.

DAY 3: Wednesday, 29th January, 2020 – Public Lecture from 10.00a.m.

DAY 4: Thursday, 30th January, 2020 – Bar-Bench Forum from 10.00a.m.

DAY 5: Friday, 31st January, 2020 – Visitation to inmates of Correctional Service facilities, Afokang, Calabar and Sick and Aged members of the Branch from 9.00a.m.;

LAW DINNER at 7.00p.m. – N5,000.00 (Dinner Fee)

DAY 6: Saturday, 1st February, 2020 – Enlarged ‘fit-and-proper’ aerobics exercise from 7.00a.m.

DAY 7: Sunday, 2nd February, 2020 – Thanksgiving Service by 10.00a.m.
