The Chief Judge of FCT, Hon. Justice Ishaq Usman Bello has issued the Consolidated FCT Courts (Custodial & Non-custodial Sentencing) Practice Directions, 2020.

The Practice Direction is made pursuant to section 259 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and section 490 (f)&(g) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The Practice Direction shall apply to all courts of criminal jurisdiction in FCT

Meanwhile, the 70-page Practice Direction was issued on the 2nd day of November, 2020 and made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

In addition, the Practice Direction is not applicable to persons below the age of 18 years and while one of its objectives is to ensure that the correctional services are decongested to the barest minimum.
