*Says, Peter Umeanuka Was Never Ordained As A Catholic Deacon*

The Catholic Diocese of Kano has publicly disowned former major seminarian Peter Umeanuka and warned Catholics against associating with his Divine Solution Ministry, insisting that he was never ordained as a deacon of the Catholic Church.

The warning was contained in a disclaimer signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Abraham Amen, on the authority of the Bishop of Kano, Most Rev. Dr John Namaza Niyiring.

The Diocese said it was compelled to issue the disclaimer following activities it considered a false representation of Catholic faith, doctrine and clerical practice.

“The Catholic Church in Kano condemns every false representation of its faith, doctrine and decorum by this ministry, and distances itself from anything it represents,” the Diocese stated.

The disclaimer was read in Catholic churches across the Diocese on Sunday, with Catholics within and outside Kano advised to dissociate themselves from Umeanuka and the activities of Divine Solution Ministry.

According to the Diocese, Umeanuka was formerly a major seminarian under its formation programme but did not proceed to ordination.

The Church said circumstances arose during his period of formation which eventually led the Diocese to ask him to discontinue serving in that capacity.

It alleged that Umeanuka subsequently established Divine Solution Ministry and has been presenting himself in a manner suggesting that he is an ordained Catholic deacon.

The Diocese specifically alleged that he wears Catholic clerical regalia and uses a monstrance while conducting activities at the ministry.

It stressed, however, that Umeanuka was never ordained as a Catholic deacon and that Divine Solution Ministry has no authorisation, affiliation or recognition from the Catholic Diocese of Kano.

The Church consequently warned Catholics that anyone who chooses to associate or transact with Umeanuka or his ministry does so independently and at their own risk.

It further stated that the Diocese would not accept liability for any physical, financial, psychological or spiritual harm allegedly arising from an individual’s association with the ministry.

The Diocese maintained that Catholic identity, clerical status and sacramental ministry are governed by established Church procedures and cannot be assumed by persons who have not received the required ordination and ecclesiastical authority.

The disclaimer represents the Diocese’s formal position on Umeanuka and Divine Solution Ministry, while the allegations concerning his representation of himself as a Catholic deacon remain claims made by the Church in its public notice.
