Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has responded to Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after the singer appealed to an unnamed politician from Imo State to allow a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Osun State.

Davido had, while addressing supporters as head of the youth campaign mobilisation team for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, said he had heard rumours suggesting that a politician from Imo State was planning to interfere in the forthcoming election or use Osun as a political battleground.
Although the singer did not mention any name, he urged the unnamed politician to promote peace and allow the people of Osun State to freely choose their preferred candidate.
Reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma said Davido should direct his appeal to Osun voters rather than to him.
Uzodimma, who chairs the All Progressives Congress National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election, said it was wrong for Davido to appeal to him merely because the singer’s wife, Chioma, is from Imo State.
“It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State. Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome through their votes,” the statement said.
The Imo governor said he had consistently preached peace and remained committed to a peaceful, free and credible election in Osun State.
He added that the APC would continue to appeal to the conscience of voters to support and elect its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Uzodimma also claimed that many voters in Osun State were ready to vote out Adeleke over what he described as the governor’s alleged failure to fulfil his campaign promises.
“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement added.
According to him, signals from across Osun State indicate that a significant number of voters have rejected the current administration and are prepared to embrace a new direction.
Uzodimma further advised Davido to focus on supporting Adeleke after the election instead of making what he called emotional appeals.
“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to cast their votes massively in favour of the APC candidate,” he said.
He also mocked Adeleke’s dancing style, suggesting that Davido should prepare to sign his uncle as a dancer in his music band if he loses the election.
“Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band, because judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement said.
The exchange comes amid rising political tension ahead of the August 15 off-cycle governorship election in Osun State, where Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The controversy also follows complaints by Adeleke’s campaign organisation over the alleged arrest and detention of the governor’s supporters by the police, as well as the restriction placed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on an Osun State Government account.
The Imole Campaign Council, which is leading Adeleke’s re-election campaign, had earlier petitioned the National Human Rights Commission, demanding the unconditional release of detained supporters.
The council accused security operatives in Osun State of intimidating the governor’s supporters ahead of the poll and alleged that several of them had been arrested and unlawfully detained without justification.
