The agency has also quizzed Senator Chris Anyanwu and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ahamba, on the bribery saga. They were allegedly paid N1.2 billion on the directive of the embattled former Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo. Anyanwu and Ahamba were reportedly paid N700 million each while Okon is in EFCC’s custody for allegedly receiving N500 million. Okon, who was arrested and detained on today, might be charged to court. Also, EFCC has discovered that some of the suspects implicated in the bribery scandal have shifted base abroad. The affected suspects included some key players in the oil industry, who were used by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. It was gathered that the oil barons contributed $88.35million of the $115million (N23.29 billion) sent to Fidelity Bank by Alison-Madueke for bribery. Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency has been inviting more people and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who benefitted from the bribery scam. According to a reliable source in EFCC, Anyanwu and Ahamba were interrogated at the agency’s zonal office in Enugu yesterday, though they were released on administrative bail and asked to come back for interaction on a scheduled date. Ahamba was President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer in several election petition cases up till 2011. In 2015, he switched loyalty to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.]]>
