The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State in the 2023 election, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, is dead.

Prior to his death, Gbagi was the former Minister of State for Education during the era of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

He was a captain of industry and a business tycoon of great repute.

He defected to SDP from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to realize his governorship ambition after the primary election of the party did not favour him, and pursued his defeat by the incumbent Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with a 172-page petition from the tribunal in Asaba to the Supreme Court in Abuja, and still lost.

His Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Kenneth Orusi in Asaba yesterday confirmed his demise but maintained that the details of the circumstances surrounding his death were still sketchy.

He said, “Yes. It is true. But I can’t immediately tell you this was what caused it.”

He is survived by a legal luminary wife, a Justice of the Appeal Court, Hon. Justice Sybil Onyeji Nwaka Gbagi
