Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Theresa Diai, has set free two federal hunters, Okogbe Ochuko and Isaiah Johnson from the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), Okere.

The duo got their freedom during Justice Diai’s fourth quarter visit to the prison facility on Tuesday.

The Department of Public Prosecutions had, before the Chief Judge, averred that the duo were accused of armed robbery, but had no case to answer.

They were subsequently granted bail.

Speaking to journalists, however, Ochuko and Johnson said they were incarcerated in August 2023 for alleged armed robbery where they were working as guards in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

They denied being armed robbers but Federal hunters.

“The youths should know God. I thank the Correctional Service where they brought me. I learnt so many things,” Okogbe notes.

On his part, Johnson said they both engaged the armed robbers who came to the area to operate while they were on night duty.

He said they had only three bullets in their possession and during the shoot-out with the robbers, he sustained serious gunshot wounds in his right hand which has made the hand numb since then.

Johnson said he was surprised when the matter was rather turned against them by residents of the area they were guarding.
