The Defence Intelligence College (DIC) has graduated 27 pioneer participants of VIP Protection Course 01/26, marking a significant step toward strengthening professional protective security operations in the country.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye, emphasized that the security landscape is becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable.

Lt.-Gen. Undiandeye, who was represented by Deputy CDI, Air Vice Marshal BR Mamman, urged the graduates to embrace innovation and adaptability in their roles as protection professionals.

The Commandant of DIC, Commodore Usman Bugaje, highlighted the critical role of the graduates in ensuring the safety of their principals and other high-profile individuals.

He said the participants were drawn from the Armed Forces, Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigerian Correctional Service, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“They underwent intensive inter-agency training focused on executive protection and protective intelligence,” Bugaje said.

“The course covered key areas including risk assessment, intelligence gathering, advance route and movement planning, threat detection, protective formations, and emergency extraction procedures, equipping the graduates with the requisite skills to protect high-value individuals and critical assets in both routine and high-risk environments.”

He added that the graduation underscored the College’s commitment to developing highly skilled security personnel and promoting inter-agency collaboration in addressing evolving security challenges and safeguarding national interests.

The Commandant urged the graduates to always uphold the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.

Also, Troops of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have buried soldiers killed during an encounter with Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The solemn burial ceremony took place at the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri this weekend.

In a statement, the spokesman of the Operation Lt. Col. Sani Uba, disclosed that the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the occasion as a painful reminder of the sacrifices of the military to the nation.

“In the profession of arms, there are moments of victory that fill us with pride and affirm the strength, courage and unity that define our service. Yet there are also solemn moments that weigh heavily on our hearts and remind us of the true cost of service, as we have witnessed today,” he was quoted to have said.

Major General Abubakar said the fallen troops demonstrated courage, selflessness and unwavering dedication to duty, noting that their sacrifices were not only losses to their families but also to the theatre, the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the entire nation.

According to him, they gave their lives in devotion to a cause greater than themselves – the nation, the people and the ideals they swore to defend. They were brave, loyal and courageous patriots whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.

The Theatre Commander added that the troops fought with valour and upheld the finest traditions of the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“They endured hardship so that our flag would continue to fly high. Their sacrifices remind us that freedom is not free; it is secured by the steadfast resolve of patriots willing to place duty above self,” he stated.

Major General Abubakar assured the families of the fallen soldiers that their sacrifices would not be in vain, adding that all entitlements due to the deceased personnel would be processed promptly to support their families.

He also extended condolences on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the families of the fallen heroes.

Also speaking, the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Security Trust Fund, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Yabe, expressed condolences to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and Operation HADIN KAI.

Professor Zulum assured that the Borno State Government would continue to support the families of the fallen heroes and the military in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

The ceremony was attended by top government officials from Borno State, senior military officers from the Headquarters Theatre Command and 7 Division Nigerian Army, the Commander of 25 Task Force Brigade, the Chairman of Damboa Local Government Area, as well as families and next of kin of the deceased personnel.

Also, Troops of 7 Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army with elements of the Nigeria Police and local vigilantes, have rescued 19 kidnap victims during a search and rescue operation around Gidan Dogo in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Guards Brigade, Lieutenant Odunola Olawuyi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, the operation was launched following credible intelligence on the hideouts of the terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council.

He said: “During the operation, troops made contact with the terrorists, leading to a firefight in which one of the criminals was neutralised while others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.

“Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and one locally fabricated firearm. Additionally, all 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to safety.”

Olawuyi said the troops had returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari, while the rescued victims were receiving medical attention and troops continued to secure the area.

He said the Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, had commended the Nigerian Army troops and other security agencies for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.

“He further reiterated that the Guards Brigade remains resolute and fully committed to safeguarding residents of the Federal Capital Territory and protecting Abuja as the nation’s seat of power.

“The Brigade will continue to intensify operations in collaboration with other security agencies to rid the territory and its environs of terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities,” Olawuyi said.
