The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has filed a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, culpable homicide, and theft against George Eze and Victor Nweze before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

In the charge marked FCT/HC/CR/437/2025, the defendants were alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of one Mr. Chinedu Eze by “deceiving him to drink a concoction which they knew would lead to his death,” an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

The charge, filed by Stanley Nwodo of the Directorate of Legal Services, Force Headquarters, Abuja, further alleged that on or about May 25, 2025, at Bwari, within the court’s jurisdiction, the defendants conspired to commit culpable homicide, contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

According to the prosecution, while George Eze is the elder brother of the deceased, the second defendant, Victor Nweze, is his son.

In count three, the prosecution alleged that both defendants, on or about May 25, 2025, unlawfully converted to their personal use four stationary shops belonging to the deceased and appointed Victor Nweze to manage them after the deceased’s death, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 310 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

They were also accused of misappropriating five Point-of-Sale (POS) machines belonging to the deceased, in violation of Section 310 of the same law.

In counts five and six, the IGP charged the defendants with stealing a black Highlander Jeep and a red Hiace bus belonging to the deceased, offences punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

When the matter came up for trial before Justice M.S. Idris, the prosecution counsel informed the court that both the defence counsel and the defendants were absent.

Consequently, the judge adjourned the case to November 10, 2025, at the instance of the defendants for continuation of trial.

The charges followed a petition to the police by E.A. Iyede of Pelican Attorneys on behalf of the deceased’s family. The petition, dated January 31, 2025, detailed the events leading to the death of Mr. Emmanuel Chinedu Eze, accusing the defendants of murder and unlawful possession of his properties.
