Former Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Calabar Branch, Daniel Kip, has congratulated a Justice of Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili on the occasion of her birthday.

The Erudite Justice Mary, who is one of the earliest women to be elevated to the Supreme Court bench today, officially bow out of the nation’s Judiciary.

Kip in her Congratulatory mess said: “I join all well meaning Nigerians, the Judiciary, the NBA, the International community and all illustrious sons and daughters of Rivers State to specially celebrate and congratulate our very own, Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter- Odili as she marks her 70th birthday and takes a bow from the Apex Court.”

“It has indeed been a sojourn for My Lord and we are proud of you. You have made your mark and they are indelible.

“We wish My Lord a fruitful and outstanding post retirement.”

My Lord obtained her B.L certificate from the Nigerian Law School in 1977 and thereafter served as Pupil State Counsel, Ministry of Justice, Abeokuta, Ogun State from 1977 to 1978 and Pupil State Counsel, Ministry of Justice, Benin, Bendel State, 1978. 

Subsequently My Lord rose to Magistrate Grade III, Benin, Bendel State (1978 -1979), Chairman, Juvenile Court, Benin, Bendel State (1978 – 1979), Magistrate Grade II, Rivers State(1979 – 1981), Chairman, Juvenile Court, Rivers State (1979 – 1981), Magistrate Grade I, Chief Magistrate Grade I (1981 – 1992), and was elevated as Judge of High Court of Rivers State (1992 – 2004).

Hon. Justice Peter-Odilli was later appointed Justice of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division (2004 – 2010), Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Kaduna Division (2010 – 2011), and later rose to the Supreme Court on June 23, 2011, till date.
