Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel, gantry price from ₦1,780 to ₦1,700 per litre, effective Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

The adjustment, communicated to customers through a pricing notice, represents a reduction of ₦80 per litre, or approximately 4.5 per cent, and marks another downward review of the refinery’s diesel price this month.

The new rate follows an earlier reduction on October 1, when the refinery lowered its diesel gantry price by ₦70, from ₦1,850 to ₦1,780 per litre.

Taken together, the two adjustments amount to a ₦150-per-litre reduction within one week, bringing the price approximately 8.1 per cent below the ₦1,850 rate preceding the October 1 review.

The latest pricing template puts Dangote’s diesel below some reported import-cost benchmarks.

A report citing the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria’s petroleum products bulletin for October 5 placed diesel landing costs between ₦1,775 and ₦1,785 per litre. Against that reported range, the refinery’s new ₦1,700 rate is between ₦75 and ₦85 cheaper per litre.

However, other reports citing MEMAN’s earlier data put the estimated spot landing cost at ₦1,696.40 per litre on October 2, down from ₦1,823.68 on September 30.

Compared with that October 2 estimate, Dangote’s new rate is ₦3.60 higher per litre. The differing figures relate to separate reported benchmarks and dates, meaning the price advantage depends on the import-cost reference used.

MEMAN’s seven-day average diesel import-parity cost was also reported to have declined from ₦1,871.34 to ₦1,823.19 per litre over the September 30–October 2 period.

The adjustments come amid fluctuations in international oil prices. Reports on Tuesday’s trading showed Brent crude falling to about $98 per barrel before recovering towards $100, while West Texas Intermediate traded below $90. These were trading-period figures rather than fixed prices for Wednesday.

In its customer notice, the refinery also indicated that corresponding credit values for affected unloaded gantry volumes would be communicated separately.

The ₦1,700 price applies at the refinery’s gantry, where customers load the product. It does not automatically establish the price motorists or other consumers will pay at filling stations.

Retail and delivered prices will still depend on transportation, distribution expenses, marketers’ margins and the cost of existing stock. Consequently, the timing and extent of any reduction for end users may vary across locations.

For businesses and bulk purchasers, the latest adjustment offers a lower refinery purchase price. Whether the full reduction reaches consumers will depend on subsequent pricing decisions along the supply chain.
