Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has unveiled a new security initiative tagged the Quick Response Squad (QRS), aimed at enhancing the state’s capacity to swiftly respond to security threats, particularly in high-risk and vulnerable communities.

The QRS was officially inaugurated on behalf of the governor by Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode during a ceremony marking the rollout of the operational framework for the squad.

The newly formed QRS is a collaborative force made up of personnel from the Civilian Protection Guard (CPG), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and the Joint Task Force (JTF). The team is designed to strengthen surveillance, bolster grassroots protection efforts, and enable rapid deployment in times of crisis.

Speaking through his deputy, Governor Alia described the formation of the squad as a proactive response to the growing security challenges in the state.

“The safety of our people remains a top priority, and this squad is designed to respond quickly and decisively wherever threats may arise,” he said.

The state government noted that the QRS will be strategically deployed to security flashpoints, reinforcing the work of conventional law enforcement agencies and complementing broader peace-building efforts across the state.

Benue State has witnessed repeated incidents of violence, especially in rural areas, prompting urgent steps to tighten local security. The QRS forms a core part of the government’s multi-layered strategy to restore peace, protect residents, and deter further attacks.

The governor called for maximum cooperation between communities and the new squad, stressing that public support and intelligence sharing remain crucial for long-term security success.
