The Management of Anglican Girls Grammar School, Apo, FCT Abuja has appealed to the parents that the students will be paying the sum of #105, 000 for the third term session.

This is contained in a letter dated 16th day of July, 2020 which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

According to the letter, it stated that before the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, the school had been able to complete the 2nd term session which many schools weren’t able to do. Meanwhile, it noted that the school has been able to start online classes for its students across board.

Therefore, it appeals to the parents and guardians to support the school by paying the stated sum for purposes of continuity.

In a chat with one of the parents who does not want his name appear on media, said the payment for the online class is very expensive, noting that it is the parents that will still bear the expenses involved to the online teaching.

He also called on government to look into the matter

The letter reads

July 16, 2020.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The Proprietor, the management staff, the staff and the executive members of Parent -Teachers’ Association of Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Apo, Abuja seize this opportunity to sincerely and deeply thank you, our dear parents for your huge and unequalled support at this delicate time of global pandemic. You have shown your love to us in the manner you encouraged and lauded our online classes. Your calls, beautiful and complimentary text messages, constructive criticisms, feedback and visits to the school are greatly and warmly acknowledged. We are really overwhelmed! May the Almighty God, our provident Father reward you so immensely, in Jesus name, Amen.

Our dear Parents, you would recall that at the outbreak of Corona Virus in Nigeria, schools and learning facilities were shut down by the Federal Government in March, 2020; Anglican Girls’ Grammar School was no exception. But the good news is that we successfully conducted the second term examination and issued out results. We are all aware that many schools in Nigeria are yet to complete their second term. If you have your ward in other schools, the message would be clearer to you. We are thankful to God for His grace upon us, for we completed the term’s work.

Nobody saw Corona Virus coming. So, when the government closed down schools, we thought it was a matter that could be sorted in a couple of weeks. Nobody knew how deadly and life-threatening the pandemic would be – everything crumbled before our eyes. We thank the Almighty God for His protection and provision. We pray He continues to preserve our lives so that we see the end of corona virus. Corona Virus will never see our end, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Anglican Girls’ Grammar School has always been known to be very proactive. As one of the leading schools in FCT in provision of quality and all- round education, we quickly pivoted to online teaching immediately the government shut down the country.

This we did to provide learning for our students to make sure there is no learning gap. We first started with our exam classes; SS3 and JSS3. SS 3 started on 3rd April and JSS3, April 13. When we saw that the closure of schools would take a longer time, we equally engaged other classes who started on 29th April.

We have successfully been running these classes using WhatsApp, Google Classroom and Google forms – Kudos to AGGS! This was possible because you supported us. With schools shutdown and academic session completely disrupted and almost paralysed, it will be dangerous to stop the online classes. We are not losing any sleep and have no regrets because we are on course.

We have almost completed the third term. We had conducted assessments remotely. Our third term examination has been scheduled in the coming weeks. It will be unrealistic to expect that corona virus will disappear soon, according to WHO, and very irresponsible and dangerous to wait for the government that seems to be battling with so many things. In order to continue the online classes, dear parents, we need financial assistance. It will be recalled that our online classes have run for three months and two weeks today but we have not charged a dime. The Proprietor of the school, Anglican Communion and the management of the school have been great. The staff salaries have continued to be paid even when no school fees were paid. The learning facilities have continued to be provided and maintained at no cost to the parents. We have exhausted our resources.

The Proprietor and the management have appealed to the parents through the PTA executive for an intervention. We had a meeting with the executive members of the PTA and they approved a levy that will take effect from this month of July, 2020. We, therefore, appeal to you our dear parents to support us by making a prompt payment. This is to enable us to continue to pay our teachers and continue to provide facilities for the classes. We have spent so much in a couple of months these classes have run. We know it has not been easy with you feeding the children, providing their basic needs, providing internet data and other devices for the smooth running of the classes. Our dear parents, this is the time we need you and we believe we won’t be disappointed. May God continue to provide for you in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The levy is stipulated as follows:

JSS1 & 2, SS 1 & 2

The students in these classes will make one off payment of N105,000.00 (One hundred and five thousand naira only). This is the 75% of term’s school fees. Instalment payment of N35,000.00 (thirty-five thousand naira) monthly would also be accepted.

Below are the Accounts details for the payment:
